GCRW January Meeting Recap

Dear Members and Friends of GCRW, We are thrilled to share the highlights from our recent January meeting, which set the tone for an exciting year ahead. The meeting took place on January 18, 2024, and featured an impressive lineup of speakers and candidates who left us inspired and informed.

Keynote Speaker: Richard Franks
We had the honor of hosting Richard Franks, the newly elected Mayor, as our keynote speaker. His insights and vision for our community left a lasting impression on all attendees.

Newly Elected President: Stephanie Franks
Our newly elected President, Stephanie Franks, gracefully presided over her first meeting. Stephanie’s leadership promises a bright future for GCRW, and we are excited to see her guide us through the year.

Candidates for County Commissioner
Several candidates for County Commission graced our event, sharing their perspectives and plans for Gaston County’s future. We heard from Blair Hall, Howard Collmar, Jim Bailey, and Tod Kinlaw, each offering unique insights into their candidacy.

Candidate for Secretary of State NC:
Chad Brown, “3rd name down vote Chad Brown”, introduced himself as a candidate for Secretary of State NC. His presence added a significant element to our meeting.

Candidates for District Court Judge
Megan Shepard and Fielding Yelverton, both vying for the position of District Court Judge, presented their qualifications and vision for our local judiciary.

Candidates for U.S. Congress
Tim Moore and Lillian Joseph, candidates for the U.S. Congress, shared their aspirations and plans for representing our community at the federal level.

The evening was both enlightening and engaging, as we had the opportunity to hear from these dedicated individuals who are committed to making a difference in Gaston County and beyond.

This January meeting marked a fantastic start to the year 2024, and it was a proud moment for Stephanie Franks as she led her first meeting as our President.

We look forward to a year filled with more informative meetings, opportunities to engage with candidates, and the chance to work together in advancing the values and goals of the Gaston County Republican Women.

Thank you to all who attended, and stay tuned for updates on our upcoming events.

Respectfully,

Erika Dills, Social Media/Digital Coordinator-Correspondence GCRW

2023 GCRW WON THE NATIONAL CARING FOR AMERICA AWARD AT THE NFRW BIENNIAL CONVENTION IN OKLAHOMA CITY!
Carol Faraday, Caring For America Co-Chair

The Gaston County Republican Women captured the national award in the “large club” category for our Caring For America  Project with Webb Street School. The award was presented at the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW) Biennial Convention in Oklahoma City this past weekend. Over the last twenty months, GCRW members worked in the gardens at Webb Street School to provide enhanced learning experiences for special needs students. Under the leadership of our Caring For America Co-Chair, Carol Faraday, the club created new wheelchair-accessible vegetable beds and maintained other garden beds and art stations. GCRW also earned the NFRW Diamond Achievement Award at the convention for demonstrating excellence in membership development, campaign activities, community relations, programs, and club functions. Congratulations to all of our hard-working members!

SEPTEMBER 2023 – Wow! GCRW had an incredible meeting in September. We met at the Historic Dallas Jail Event Center, where we were treated to five-star service. Our speaker, Barbara McKay, is a force of optimism and she was incredibly inspirational with the stories of her life and encouraging us to embrace our conservative values and always believe we can make a difference. Thank you, Barbara! We completed our fundraiser and exceeded our goal, raising over $2500! Thanks to everyone who contributed. And, thanks to Jennifer Cornette, Caring For America Co-Chair, for organizing a gas card drive to benefit the Phoenix Counseling Center. Gaston County Republican Women Rock!
