Community Service

The National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW) established the Caring for America program in 1999 to encourage clubs to actively participate in at least one community service program. Caring for America is based on the belief that problems can be solved most effectively through the generosity and combined energies of individual citizens.

GCRW participates in the community in several ways, including:

• Providing educational programs and workshops on topics important to our members and the community. In 2026, GCRW hosted a technology and online safety presentation focused on digital threats, scams, privacy concerns, and practical ways to stay safe online.

• Supporting local organizations such as Holy Angels and their mission of serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

• Hosting monthly Common Ground Coffee meetings that bring citizens, community leaders, candidates, and elected officials together for conversation, education, and civic engagement.

• Participating in community celebrations such as the Dallas America 250 Parade and other events that honor our nation’s history and strengthen community spirit.

• Encouraging informed citizenship, leadership development, volunteerism, and community involvement throughout Gaston County.

PAST YEARS:

Webb Street School is a public school in the Gaston County school district that serves students ages 5 to 22 with intellectual disabilities.  The school operates a garden center that grows vegetables for local restaurants. They also have a plant sale every spring. GCRW is participating in a gardening project to help with the greenhouse plants and outdoor gardens.

GCRW continues to work with Webb Street School during 2024 and 2025 | Our Facebook has photos and mentions of our work there and across the community.

Back To School Work Day At Webb Street School – July 2022

GCRW had another great GCRW community service day at Webb Street School. We were able to weed multiple beds, rebuild the compost bin, and clean and disassemble three vegetable beds to clear the way to build a large wheelchair accessible vegetable garden. Thanks to all the hard-working members and associate members. A special thanks to Carol Faraday for organizing the events. And thanks to our GOP candidates for lending a hand, including, Brad Overcash, NC Senate; Justin Davis, Superior Court Judge; and A.M. Stephens, School Board.

GCRW held its first work day at Webb Street School on February 5. We helped in the greenhouses and then moved to the outside yards. Thank you to Carol Faraday, Caring For America Co-Chair, for organizing the event. Everyone had a great time for a worthy cause. Come join us next time !!

Wreaths Across America – Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, GCRW participates wreath-laying ceremonies at local cemeteries to remember and honor service men and women who sacrificed themselves in the service of our country. Members are encouraged to donate for the purchase wreaths and/or actively lay wreaths at cemeteries.

Christmas Cards – Each year members prepare cards to send to military personnel serving overseas.

Blessing Bags – Members send cards and/or create bags with essential toiletries, stationary, and other items to share with those in need.
